The anticipated number of patients requiring CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) due to COVID-19 is already putting pressure on supply chains as there is a building demand for CPAP masks.
Dr. Renato Favero, the former head physician of the Garden Valtrompia Hospital in Italy, reached out to engineering company Isinnova who have successfully adapted snorkel masks to fit existing airway machines. A pair of 3D printed valves “The Dave and The Charlotte” have been successfully trialled and are now being used to help patients in Spain, Italy, Morocco, Brazil and France.
A group of UK medical device suppliers have come together with Cressi to form a not for profit initiative to help supply these masks as the standard CPAP masks start to run out due to demand.
